Xfinity Fastest Lap: Denny Hamlin Claims Sixth Fastest Lap Award at Indianapolis

Denny Hamlin secured his sixth Xfinity Fastest Lap Award of the NASCAR Cup Series season during the Brickyard 400 Presented by PPG at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Denny Hamlin secured his sixth Xfinity Fastest Lap Award of the NASCAR Cup Series season during the Brickyard 400 Presented by PPG at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Hamlin set the fastest lap of Sunday's Brickyard 400 on the final lap, in hopes of chasing down Bubba Wallace and Kyle Larson on the second overtime of the race. Hamlin clocked in at 49.741 seconds on lap 168 of the event.

It is the second week in a row Hamlin has set the Xfinity Fastest Lap on the final lap of a NASCAR Cup Series event. At Dover Motor Speedway, Hamlin's fastest lap came as he raced to the checkered flag in the AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400.

Hamlin has now won six Xfinity Fastest Lap Awards in the Cup Series, leading the series in that award. Hamlin is currently fourth in the NASCAR Cup Series points standings.

In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Sam Mayer earned the Xfinity Fastest Lap award in the Pennzoil 250. Mayer logged a lap of 54.549 seconds on the second lap of the 100-lap race.

Mayer finished second to Connor Zilisch in the race after an exciting finish following a brief rain delay. Mayer is third in the NASCAR Xfinity Series standings, 48 points behind leader Justin Allgaier.

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series raced at nearby Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park in the TSport 200. Corey Heim added to his collection of Xfinity Fastest Lap awards, with a time of 23.338 seconds on lap two.

Heim also has six Xfinity Fastest Lap awards, leading the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Heim has claimed the award in four of the last six races.

Heim's lead in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series standings is up to 143 points, with five wins in 16 races.

The NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series head to Iowa Speedway this weekend. The Xfinity Series races in the HyVee Perks 250 on Saturday, August 2 at 4:30 p.m. ET. The NASCAR Cup Series Iowa Corn 350 Powered by Ethanol takes the green flag at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 3.
